Memorial Day 2004

 

A cold, cloudy day as the Red River of the North flows north along the east side of Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site.  North Dakota is on the left hand side of the picture and Minnesota in the right hand side of the photograph.

Cool, Wet, Rainy weather did not spoil or delay the Memorial Day Observance, it was moved inside at the Museum's Meeting Hall..

 

The Ceremony Begins

On the left:  Steve Scott stands ready to assist with Fort Abercrombie's Memorial Day activities

On the right: Vance Nelson reads the names of those individuals who were buried in the Fort's Cemetery.  The remains have since been removed to the Little Big Horn National Cemetery near Hardin, MT.

 

 

 

Pomp and Circumstance

 

         

Vance Nelson reads a passage on the history of Decoration (Memorial) Day

       Jim Acker reads a line during the Vacant (Empty) Chair Degree.  The Vacant (Empty) Chair degree was developed by the Frontier Army Lodge of Masonic Research as a Memorial Ceremony.
