1st Regiment Cavalry "Mounted Rangers"

Organized at St. Cloud, St. Peters and Fort Snelling, Minn., October 9 to December 30, 1862. Organized for frontier duty against Indians. 1st Battalion engaged in frontier duty until June, 1863. Sibley's Expedition against Indians in Dakota Territory June 16-September 14. Battle of Big Mound, D. T., July 24. Dead Buffalo Lake July 26. Stony Lake July 28. Missouri River July 28-30. 1st Battalion on duty at Fort Ripley, and rest of Regiment at Fort Snelling, Minn., until December, Mustered out October 20 to December 7, 1863.

Regiment lost during service 2 Officers and 4 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 31 Enlisted men by disease. Total 37.

2nd Regiment Cavalry

Organized at Fort Snelling, Minn., December 5, 1863, to January 5, 1864. Duty there and garrison posts on Minnesota frontier until May, 1864. March to Fort Ridgley May 24-28, 1864. Sully's Expedition against hostile Indians west of the Missouri River June 5 to October 15, 1864. March to Fort Sully, Missouri River, June 5-July 1. Pursuit of Indians to the Bad Lands July 5-28. Battle of Tah Kah A Kuty or Killdeer Mountain July 28. Passage of the Bad Lands August 3-18. Action at Two Hills, Bad Lands, Little Missouri River, August 8-9. Rescue of Fisk's Emigrant train September 10-30. Engaged in frontier and patrol duty between Forts Wadsworth, Abercrombie, Ripley and Ridgley, Headquarters at Fort Snelling, until May, 1866. Mustered out Companies "B," "C," "D," "E," "F," "G," "I" and "M" November 17 to December 29, 1865, Company "A" April 2, 1866, Company "H" April 28, 1866, and Companies "K" and "L" May 4, 1866.

Regiment lost during service 4 Enlisted men killed and 3 Officers and 56 Enlisted men by disease. Total 63.

Hatch's Independent Battalion Cavalry

Organized at Fort Snelling and St. Paul, Minn, Companies "A," "B," "C," "D" July 25 to September, 1863. Company "E" mustered August 31, 1864, and Company "F" mustered September 1, 1864.

Companies "A," "B," "C," "D" march to Pembina October 5-November 13, 1863, and frontier duty there until May, 1864. Moved to Fort Abercrombie May 5-16, 1864. Assigned to duty Companies "A" and "B" as garrison at Fort Abercrombie, Company "C" at Alexandria and Pomme de Terre. Company "D" on patrol duty from Fort Abercrombie to Pembina. Companies "E" and "F" on frontier duty. Mustered out April 26 to June 22, 1866.
